![]() Editorial Message, 5th May 2007 by Dr. N. Gopalakrishnan, Hon. Director, IISH India is growing. We can feel an all round growth of our motherland . World over leaders, thinkers and economists started recognizing our achievements and progress. India is becoming a world power. Our economical status, productivity, literacy, academic institutions and many other factors are contributing to this improvement in the outlook. When we are growing economically , we should remember that our foundation stones should not loose their grip on our life. All the western countries in the process of growing lost almost all the foundations which could held them together. The family relations are rupturing fast, the children are loosing their direction, the psychologists, anthropologists and sociologists say the society is loosing directions, in the west. Perhaps we are also now reaching the same pace of growth rate. But the values and cultural traits which could hold us together is loosing the grip in our individual, family, social and national life. We started focusing only on us as individuals. My benefit, my gain, my happiness, my achievements, my winning ……etc are the targets of every individual. Money is flowing from many directions in dharmic or adharmic ways. We start doing anything for money, power, name and fame. We would like to remind you an important message. Once our tradition, culture, values and dharma are lost , it will never come back. It will not be the same, if at all it comes back. Let us all take care that our children, relatives, friends, and whomsoever are close to us take the responsibility of imparting cultural values to us. We cannot blame the schools and teachers because they are also one among us who are loosing the grip in the society. Hence we cannot expect that they will do better to our children than what we can do for our children. Let us all work through different possible ways, in our personal, family, social and national life to grow / progress / develop economically, socially, intellectually, scientifically and spiritually. Spiritually means both basic and applied level as given by our Rishies for the last many millennia. These messages are still relevant and are being accepted and applied world over.
